Illegal intrusions by each other's nationals, trans-border crime, smuggling of firearms, and construction of illegal structures along the border figured in the three-day meeting between Indian and Bangladeshi border guards which ended Saturday.

The deputy director general-level meeting between Bangladesh RiflesĀ and Border Security Force at the BDR sector headquarters in northeastern Sylhet district discussed firing on each other's nationals by border guards, prevention of trans-border crime and illegal intrusion of nationals, official sources said in Dhaka.

Smuggling of firearms, ammunition, drugs and other contraband, construction of illegal structures within 150 yards of the border and transportation of bamboo and other forest resources through common river routes were also discussed in the meeting, the sources said.

Both sides at the conference agreed to cooperate actively with each other in reducing border tension and all kinds of border crimes.

The Bangladesh side was led by Deputy Director General of BDR, Brigadier General Golam Rabbani while the Indian side was led by Inspector General of BSF S C Srivastava.
