Bodo rebel group split dashes hopes for talks with govt

This has affirmed the split in the outfit which is being wooed by the government of India for talks through its peace interlocutor P C Haldar. The peace interlocutor has been meeting Daimary in jail of late to set the stage for dialogue.

Daimary was made the prime accused in October 30, 2008, serial blasts in Assam that claimed over 90 lives in four places. He was arrested in Bangladesh over two years back and handed over to India.

Prominent people's organisations and political organisations in Bodo tribe civil society has been asking the government to hold dialogue with the NDFB led by Ranjan Daimary so that a solution could be talked out for the Bodo insurgency problem.

But dashing the hopes for an immediate resolution on the issue with the NDFB, some of Daimary's trusted lieutenants have reconstituted the 'national council' of the outfit removing Daimary from the position of 'president'.

In statement issued to the media the outfit informed that a general meeting of the NDFB was held recently resolved to continue armed struggle for the liberation of Boroland and formed interim 'national council' of NDFB. It appointed the self-styled 'deputy chief of army staff and commanding officers of the four commands and to discuss on various issues and problems of the party. The meeting was chaired by Maj I K Songbijit, 'chief of army staff', Boroland Army, NDFB. The meeting, after detailed and lengthy deliberation, unanimously decided to take the following resolutions:

The meeting formed the interim National Council, the decision making body of the party, for a term of one year.

The meeting has unanimously decided to elect nine members to constitute the interim National Council of NDFB. The elected members of the interim National Council are as follows: I K Songbijit (president), B Naison (vice-president), B. Saoraigwra (general secretary), B. Jwngshar (deputy military secretary), B Sansula (assistant finance secretary), B Sibigiri (assistant forest secretary), H. Leba (assistant organizing secretary), C Rwikha (assistant publicity secretary), B Dwmwilu (member)

The meeting unanimously resolved to appoint 'captain' G Bidai as deputy chief of army staff of Boroland Army, NDFB. The meeting also vowed to work and fight together with vigour and determination to liberate Boroland and the 'Western South East Asia (the so-called North-East India)'.
