In another blow to the militant outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Songbijit operating in Sonitpur district, a joint team of army and police gunned down hardcore militant Elion Daimary alias Engarlang.

The Charduar based Assam Rifle unit, based on specific information regarding presence of some armed terrorists, laid a mobile check post along with police party in Bogijuli area of Sonitpur district.

Two armed individuals were seen approaching the check-post on a bike who when challenged fired at the security forces compelling the latter to immediately retaliate in self-defence. In the ensuing fire fight one hard core NDFB-S terrorist was killed while one managed to escape under cover of the thick vegetation.

One 7.62 mm pistol, ammunition, 2 mobile phones, 8 SIM cards and a motorcycle were recovered from the slain terrorist.

Sonitpur district police superintendent Sangjukta Parashar informed that the slain militant was involved in massacre of Adivasi villagers in December 23 last and was involved in extortion and other illegal activities in the area. She said militants were coming to a Bihu function in the area.

It is pertinent to mention here that in the aftermath of brutal massacre of Adivasi villagers by NDFB-S militants on 23 December 2014, the Security Forces have intensified operations to systematically dismantle the network of the outfit.
