The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday said it will oppose the Patents (Amendment) Bill if it is not referred to either a Standing Committee or Joint Select Committee of Parliament.
"The Bill in its present form is not acceptable to the party as it is not in the national interest," he said. "We want a consensus on it," party spokesman V K Malhotra said after an hour-long meeting of the BJP's parliamentary party.
The meeting, chaired by party president Lal Kishenchand Advani, also decided to pursue the party's demand for the recall of Goa and Jharkhand governors.
"The original sin committed by both the governors does not get condoned just because President's rule has been imposed in Goa and a BJP-led government is formed in Jharkhand," he added.
Asked whether BJP would be satisfied if they [the governors] were shifted to other states, he said, "At least something should be done. They should be punished. We will raise the issue vociferously whenever there is any discussion on Goa or Jharkhand."
