Bharatiya Janata Party leader Varun Gandhi on Wednesday said all statues of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati would be replaced with those of Lord Ram once the party regains power in the state.
"When the BJP will form a government in UP under the leadership of Surya Pratap Shahi (new BJP state chief), we will remove all statues of Mayawati and install that of Shri Ram," the Pilibhit MP said at a function to welcome the state president at party headquarters.
He said in Shahi the party has got a president, who will give a new direction to the BJP in the state.
However, hinting at construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, party national vice-president Vinay Katiyar said Lord Ram's statue should be installed at a "pious place". "We will make a grand temple in Ayodhya," he said.
