The Bharatiya Janata Party has organised a condolence meeting at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Monday to pay tribute to the 23-year-old gang rape victim, who succumbed to her injuries at a Singapore hospital on Saturday.

Light a candle for the Delhi rape victim

Top BJP leaders, including Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj, will offer tribute to the 23-year-old brave heart who died after battling for life for 13 days after being brutally gang-raped by six men in a moving bus.

Taking on the Congress-led UPA Government over its handling of the entire situation, Delhi BJP President Vijender Gupta condemned the Centre's move of imposing pressure on the family to conduct the last rites of the girl before dawn.

"The dead body reached the girl's residence at around 4: 30 (a.m.). Even I reached there at the same time. The police and the administration took a hasty action. It was still night and in the night only the police officials wanted the family to lit the funeral pure. Her father was not even wearing a 'dhoti' nor had he taken a bath according to the traditions at the time of the funeral," said Gupta.

"When I objected to all these, then they (police and the administration) waited for the sunrise. The government wants to get over the present situation by dismissing this entire case," he added.

Vijender Gupta was present at the girl's cremation along with Minister of State for Home Affairs R.P.N. Singh and Congress MP from West Delhi Mahabal Mishra.

A special aircraft of Air India carrying the mortal remains of the victim, who died at Singapore's Mount Elizebeth hospital on Saturday morning, landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in New Delhi at around 3.30 am on Sunday.

The body was then taken to the Mahavir Enclave residence where the girl lived and religious rituals were performed before taking it to the crematorium at Dwarka Sector-24 amid heavy deployment of Delhi Police and RAF personnel.

The cremation took place under a dense cover of fog.
