Treading cautiously after the criticism over the summary expulsion of Jaswant Singh, the BJP today sought a "clarification" from senior leader Arun Shourie over his fusillade against the leadership yesterday.
"The party has called for a clarification from Arun Shourie (over his remarks yesterday). This is not a as show-cause notice. Nor has he been sent a notice seeking explanation. Only a clarification has been sought," BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said today.
The party was making an exhaustive compilation of his statements in the recent past and is likely to put it to him in a day or two for a detailed reply, party sources said.
The party, which has chosen not not to suspend or issue a show-cause notice to Shourie, was at pains to explain the nature of its course of action today apparently with a view to avoiding criticism that has come forth its way in the wake of the swift expulsion of Jaswant Singh last week following his book on Jinnah.
Shourie, who had been critical of the party after the Lok Sabha debacle, yesterday let loose a barrage of attack on the leadership calling it "Humpty Dumpty", "Alice in Blunderland" and "Tarzan".
He wanted the take over of the party by the RSS, removing the present leadership lock, stock and barrel saying it was self-serving in nature and was involved in "mutual projection and mutual protection".
The leadership was not interested in taking corrective measures on issues which he had been raising for the last three years and was only interested in self-perpetuation.
