An eyewitness in the Bilkis Bano gang-rape case identified 14 accused, including 2 policemen, in the special court during in-camera trial, special public prosecutor R K Shah said.

On March 3, 2002, in the aftermath of the Godhra train carnage in Gujarat, Bilkis Bano was allegedly gang-raped and many of her relatives massacred in Dahod district in Gujarat.

Shah added that the witness, Farook Mohammed, had escaped during the riots in Gujarat and had hid in a temple.

The examination-in-chief is over and the cross-examination, which remained inconclusive on Thursday, will continue on Friday, he said.

Bilkis, whose cross-examination was concluded on Thursday, had earlier identified in the court the 12 accused.

Of the 20 accused, eight are charged with shielding guilty persons. The eight accused include a doctor couple, who performed the post-mortem of the victims, and six police officers.

On January 13, the court had framed charges against the accused for their alleged complicity in the attack.

Following the Supreme Court's directive, the trial was shifted to Maharashtra from Gujarat.
