National Democratic Alliance convenor George Fernandes met former member of Parliament and Janata Dal-United leader Anand Mohan Singh in Patna's Beur jail on Sunday. Singh was recently sentenced to death for the lynching of Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah in 1994.

During his visit, the former Defence minister lashed out at the Nitish Kumar-led state government, stating that it had 'failed on all fronts.'

"Sarkar ko to bahut pahle hi chale jana chahiye tha,yeh koi sarkar hain"( The government should have gone a long time back) said Fernandes.

He hinted that he will hold a discussion with party leaders who were unhappy with Nitish Kumar and JD-U president Sharad Yadav.

Fernandes alleged that all the convicts connected to the case were being subjected to 'mental torture' in jail.

"We respect the judiciary but will not take the treatment being meted out to them. They were subjected to mental torture in jail. We will take the matter to the people's court," Fernandes said.

Later, he told mediapersons that his party was worried about the children of the convicted persons and that "all efforts should be made for their early release".
