Pappu Yadav made 670 calls from jail in Nov

A total 670 calls were made in November -- about 22 calls a day -- from the mobile phone seized from jailed Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Rajesh Rajan alias Pappu Yadav during a raid on Beur jail.

The print out of mobile calls, released by the jail authorities, revealed that 284 calls where made in the first fortnight of the month and 386 calls in the second fortnight.

The phone, registered in the name of the Yadav's sister Anita Ranjan, was found in the jailed MP's shoe on December 8 during a crackdown by prison administration on criminals running kidnapping and extortion activities from behind bars.

Investigations of the calls made by the Madhepura MP have revealed that he had talks with Bihar jail minister Raghvendra Pratap Singh and many other ministers in the Rabri Devi cabinet, including irrigation minister Jagdanand Singh and minister of state for power Shyam Razak, from inside Beur jail.

Yadav is in jail in connection with the murder of Communist Party of India-Marxist MLA Ajit Sarkar in 1998.

The calls lasted from half-a-minute to 20 minutes.

Calls were also made from the seized mobile phone to Yadav's wife and Lok Janshakti Party MP from Saharsa, Ranjeeta Ranjan.

Many officials in Madhepura, Saharsa and elsewhere were also contacted from the same phone, inquires by jail authorities revealed.

Playing down the controversy, RJD chief and railway minister Lalu Prasad on Sunday argued there is no machine that could identify the place from where one is making a call.

"By the same logic one can call even a judge," Prasad said and flayed the media for highlighting negative things at the cost of positive ones.
