In yet another instance of the mob taking the law into its hands, two persons were lynched on suspicion of being robbers in Bihar.

The incident took place at Nutan Colony in Sultanganj on Friday night. The police are yet to identify the deceased.

A mob of over 300 people nabbed the two men while they were allegedly trying to escape after robbing a person, Deputy Superintendent of Police S P Choudhary told rediff.com.

One of them jumped into a pond to save himself, but the angry mob pulled him

out and beat him to death with sticks and iron rods.

Several cases of public fury against criminal offenders have been reported from Bihar in the last one month. A similar incident in Vaishali district had claimed 10 lives on September 14.

In another incident, twenty-six-year-old Rakesh Kumar was beaten to death by a group of villagers for allegedly stealing a temple statue.

In an attempt to curb incidents of mob violence, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had recently announced that the entire village will have to pay a heavy fine if its residents took the law into their own hands.
