Jitendra Swami, son of Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate and sitting legislator Umashankar Singh, and seven of his associates were arrested and a number of firearms were seized from them during a police operation on the outskirts of Maharajaganj town in Bihar's Siwan district on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police Ratna Sanjay said.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided two houses and an RJD office and took them into custody while they were trying to flee, Sanjay said.

Seven rifles, three revolvers, a police carbine, a country-made pistol and several rounds of ammunition were seized, the SP said.

They were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.
