July 22, 2013 16:16 IST

A local court in Bihar's Saran district on Monday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Meena Devi, the absconding principal of the government primary school where 23 children died after eating contaminated food, an official said.

Saran Superintendent of Police Sujit Kumar said Chapra district civil court issued the arrest warrant against absconding principal after hearing the police petition in this connection.

A government inquiry report has blamed her for the deaths of the children who had consumed mid day meal on Tuesday.

The principal is still traceless. The administration has decided to attach her property if she failed to surrender soon in this case.

The police had also raided her house twice in last three days and recovered bottles of pesticide.

The state government has suspended her from service for “gross negligence”.

According to district officials, an FIR has been registered against her on penal charges of murder and criminal conspiracy.
