In a first, three students of Motihari Engineering College at Motihari, Bihar,  have been expelled on charges of ragging a junior student, officials said on Wednesday.

The institute, which is one of the six government-run engineering colleges in the state, has expelled three students including a girl on the charges that they had ragged Monica Shailesh on October 15.

"Strict action was taken against students on the instructions of Science and  Technology Department's A K Mishra," said a college official.

According to officials, Monica had alleged that she was subjected to ragging by some seniors when she was standing at the college counter. After she filed a complaint petition, the college disciplinary action committee inquired into it and found that three students were responsible for the incident.

Three months ago, two more cases of ragging were reported at the Patna University.
