Saurabh threatened to commit suicide if tough questions were asked, reports M I Khan from Patna

The Bihar School Examination Board on Saturday cancelled the result of first and third rank-holders of class 12 science and decided to give another chance to arts topper to appear for a re-test on June 11.

The decision was taken by the Board on the basis of results of the re-test of toppers by a team of experts conducted on Friday.

BSEB chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad said in a press conference that the results of class 12 science topper Saurabh Shreshtha and third ranker Rahul Kumar have been cancelled by the Board on the basis of results of the re-test. “Both have failed in the re-test,” he said.

According to officials of the Board, Saurabh, during the re-test and interview, threatened to commit suicide if tough questions from Physics and Chemistry were asked.

"Never before such thing has happened. It is first time that the board has cancelled the result of two science toppers on the basis of their assessment during re-test,” a senior Board official said.

The Board on Friday conducted a re-test of the toppers of class 12 after a controversy over the merit of toppers.

Out of the 14 toppers, 13, except Rubi, appeared for a re-exam on Friday. Rubi cited health reasons for not appearing for the re-test.

The state government has also cancelled the recognition of Vaishali-based VinshuRaiCollege, as the two toppers who failed in the re-test were students of the college, Prasad said.

Board officials said 13 toppers, including four of arts and nine of science, appeared before a panel of experts and anti-corruption wing of the Board to assess their merit.
