Will Shatrughan join Nitish Kumar?

November 09, 2015 11:03 IST

Bihar’s political corridors are buzzing with rumours of the star-politician joining hands with Nitish Kumar.

As the Bharatiya Janata Party suffered a resounding defeat in the Bihar elections, the question that now emerges is whether the absence of 'Bihari Babu' Shatrughan Sinha from the campaign in the state was a reason for the party’s poor show in Bihar?

“Yes,” says a close friend of Sinha, “He had repeatedly tried to warn the party of the ground realities in Bihar. But they didn’t listen to him. Instead, the party bosses sidelined him completely and chose to disregard his understanding of the Bihar politics.”

With the BJP routed in his home state, a ‘saddened’ Shatrughan Sinha chose not to comment on Sunday.

“I am at the moment too saddened by the developments. Ironically, this (the BJP’s defeat in Bihar) is happening on the birthday of one of the party’s primary architects L K Advaniji. I have always said the party should listen to the wise experienced voices,” the BJP MP from Patna Sahib said.

While Sinha remains mum on his future in the BJP, Bihar’s political corridors are now buzzing with rumours of the star-politician joining hands with Nitish Kumar.

“It’s just a matter of time now before Shatrughan Sinha is persuaded by Nitish Kumar to join the the Janata Dal-United,” a party source said.
