In a rarest of the rare case, a two-month-old girl has been found to be carrying a foetus in her womb at a village in Bihar's Araria district, an official on Monday said.
Pallavi, daughter of Ganga Prasad Sing, a resident of Bankora village in Araria, about 350 km from Patna, was carrying a foetus which was detected during an ultrasonography test at Isan Diagniostic Centre, a private radio diagnostic centre in neighbouring Purnia district.
Singh and other members of his family were shocked when doctors informed them that Pallavi was carrying a foetus in her womb.
Radiologist Dr Mukesh,who conducted the ultrasonography said that it was the rarest of rare medical phenomenon, known as congenital development.
"A Similar case was reported in Gujarat in 1999 and the last known case of congenital developmental anomaly was detected in China in 201,"Mukesh said.
According to him, the first case of such a congenital developmental anomaly in modern history was detected in 1808. Mukesh said that it is an anomaly that takes place within the foetus.
Singh,a poor labourer,said that doctors told him that it was curable. When contacted, Purnia district civil surgeon Dr Ram Charitra Mandal that in his medical career of two decades, he had not come across such case.
Mandal said that district administration will help the poor parents to take her outside Purnia for treatment.
