The new Bihar assembly has 141 legislators with pending criminal cases against them.
According to a report by the Association of Democratic Reforms, 59 per cent of the MLAs (or 141 MLAs out of 241) in the Bihar assembly have criminal records pending against them. Comparatively, the percentage of tainted legislators in the last assembly was 35 per cent.
Both Janata Dal-United and the Bharatiya Janata Party have 58 such candidates with pending criminal cases against them.
Out of the 141 candidates, 85 have declared in their affidavits that they have serious charges pending against them. The charges range from murder and attempt to murder.
The number of crorepati candidates too has gone up from 8 in 2005 to 47 in 2010.
Top 10 MLAs with pending criminal cases
1) Pradip Kumar, JD-U legislator from Warsaliganj, has 18 cases pending against him with 27 counts of serious offences.
2) Shivji Rai Purvi, JD-U legislator from Madhuban, has 14 cases pending with 8 serious counts of serious offences
3) Narendra Kumar Pandey, JD-U legislator from Tarari, has 23 cases pending against him with 13 counts of serious charges.
4) Narendra Kumar Singh, JD-U legislator from Matihani, has 15 cases pending and 13 serious charges against him.
5) Satish Chandra, BJP legislator from Narkatiaganj, has 7 cases pending and 17 serious charges against him.
6) Amarendra Kumar Pandey, JD-U legislator from Kuchaikote, has 11 cases pending and 7 serious charges against him
7) Ananadi Prasad Yadav, BJP legislator from Sikti, has 5 cases pending and 7 counts of serious offences against him.
8) Manoranjan Singh, JD-U legislator from Ekma, has 18 cases against him of which 6 are serious charges.
9) Mohammad Tousif Alam, Congress legislator from Bahadurganj, has 6 cases pending and 6 other serious charges against him.
10) Avaneesh Kumar Singh, BJP legislator from Chiraia, has 7 cases pending and 5 serious charges against him.

- The Rashtriya Janata Dal has 13 MLAs with pending criminal cases
- Out of the 6 elected Independents, 5 have pending criminal cases against them
- Out of the four Congress MLAs, 3 have pending criminal cases
- All 3 Lok Janshakti Party legislators have pending cases against them
- Same is the case with the Communist Party of India, whose lone legislator has criminal cases pending against him.
