In an e-mail faxed to mediapersons in Guwahati (Assam), KLO chairman Jiban Singha said Bhutias "residing in Kamtapur area must leave and all trade and commerce with them must stop forthwith."

He urged KLO cadres to drive out the Bhutias from the region "as Bhutan has betrayed the trust, which we had placed in them as they had never earlier opposed our stay in that country. Bhutias will have to leave north Bengal unless the Bhutan government stop operations against us."

On December 21, the United Liberation Front of Asom had issued a similar threat.
