In West Bengal’s Howrah two women from a family were allegedly gang-raped by seven men, who reportedly have links with Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress.

The horrific incident has now gained a political hue. The women reportedly come from a family of the Communist Party of India-Marxist supporters while their alleged assaulters were led by a Trinamool leader.

It was an act of revenge by the leader, who lost panchayat elections to a Left-backed candidate, according a news channel.

Late on Tuesday, the attackers barged into her house and raped the women.

The police have filed a first information report against eight, of which seven have been arrested.
