Being gay is a CRIME in India! Do you agree?

December 11, 2013 16:20 IST

In a body blow to the gay rights movement in India, the Supreme Court has upheld the constitutional validity of the penal provision making gay sex a criminal offence.

Parliament will now have to take a decision on the controversial issue, stated the apex court, adding that it is for the legislature to debate and decide on the matter.

The SC verdict, in lay man’s terms, means that homosexual men and women can be prosecuted and penalised for having sex. They can even be awarded the life imprisonment for having ‘unnatural sex’.

The verdict effectively equates every homosexual in India with a criminal.

Do you, our dear readers, agree with the apex court’s verdict? Do you think being gay is a crime? Or do you think that all Indians should have the right to love, irrespective of gender and free from the fear of legal persecution?
