A local court on Saturday framed charges against Shiromani Akali Dal legislator Gaganjit Singh Barnala in an alleged rape case, in which he was earlier granted bail.

Additional Sessions Judge Ravi Kumar Sondhi framed the charges against Barnala, son of Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, and fixed the next date of hearing on December 15.

"We did not oppose framing of the charges," the counsel for Barnala told reporters in Chandigarh.

Barnala, who is currently out on bail, was present in the Court. The SAD MLA from Dhuri was arrested on August 12 after his maid charged him with raping her.
