The militants were arrested near Madhopur Chowk in Sirhind area on Saturday, Senior Superintendent of Police Varinder Kumar said. One AK-47 rifle, 25 live cartridges and some explosives were recovered from them.

One of the arrested, Amandeep Singh, was alleged to have arranged accommodation for Babbar Khalsa International India chief Jagtar Singh Hawara in the Model town area of Ludhiana following Hawara's escape from the high security Burail jail in Chandigarh where he was lodged in connection with the assassination of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh.

Hawara is currently in the custody of the Chandigarh police.

The three were being interrogated, the SSP said.

In the adjoining Patiala district, two Shiromani Akali Dal workers, Gurcharan Singh and Mohan Singh Kartarpur, were
