PM awards eminent scientists at Science Congress

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday gave away awards to eminent scientists for their contribution and achievements in the field of Science and Technology at the inaugural function of the 94th Indian Science Congress here.

Following is the list the Awardees who received the gold medal in the Indian Science Congress Association for the year 2006-07:

  • Dr I V Subba Rao :- Asutosh Mookerjee Memorial Award
  • Prof M Barma :- S N Bose Birth Centenary Award
  • Dr Krishan Lal :- S K Mitra Birth Centenary Award
  • Dr N C Mehrotra :- Birbal Sahni Birth Centenary Award
  • Prof Yashpal :- D S Kothari Memorial Award
  • Dr P S Goel :- Vikram Sarabhai Memorial Award
  • Prof Ashok Misra :- S S Bhatnagar Memorial Award

Millenium Plaques of Honour were given to Prof M K Chandrasekharan and Prof V L S Bhimsankaran.

While Excellence in Science and Technology Award was given to Prof Goverdhan Mehta, Dr V P Dimri received the G P Chatterjee Memorial Award.

Dr B P Radhakrishna and Dr S Raghuvardhan Reddy received Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Awards.

Prof R C Mehrotra Memorial Life Time Achievement Award was given to Prof Girjesh Govil.

Jawaharlal Nehru Prize was given to the A P Academy of Sciences.

Following is the list of scientists who received the General President's Awards:

Prof R Chidambaram, Dr Anil Kakodkar, G Madhavan Nair, Dr Devendra Lal, Prof Harmut Michel, Dr Anil Kohli, Dr A V Rama Rao, Dr Hari Narain, Prof Govind Swarup and Dr Vasant Gowariker.

Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Kapil Sibal, Tamil Nadu Governor Surjeet Singh Barnala and State Ministers participated in the function which was attended by eminent scientists, scholars and research students from India and abroad.
