Assam: 6 injured in ULFA firing

At least six people were injured, some of them seriously, when United Liberation Front of Asom militants opened fired at two places at Doomdooma in Assam's Tinsukia district on Friday.

Six people, mostly non-Assamese, were injured in the attacks by ULFA at two places in the town, additional superintendent of police (security) Amitav Sinha told PTI over phone from Tinsukia.

He said a tense situation prevailed in the township when people feared that a bomb planted by the ULFA had exploded, which turned out to be a hoax, he said.

Panic prevailed and shopkeepers downed their shutters, but security measures have been tightened since then.

The injured have been admitted to the local hospital.
