Three people were killed and four others were injured on Wednesday in a grenade blast at Maibong railway station in Assam's hill district of North Cachar.

The blast occurred inside a warehouse adjacent to a water tank near the station platform around noon, police said.

Suspected militants hurled the grenade and escaped using the crowd at the station as cover, they said.

The local police refused to divulge the identity of the suspects but did not rule out the involvement of Dima Haolam Daoga (the Black Widow group).

The injured have been rushed to the local Maibong civil hospital.

Train services were not disrupted as the tracks were not affected due to the blast, they said.

Top police officials have rushed to the spot.
