Assam: 2 killed in police firing

At least two persons were killed and 16 others including were injured when the Assam Police opened fired to control a group clash that had broken between two communities at the weekly market in Langpih near the Assam - Meghalaya border in Kamrup district of Assam on Friday afternoon.

A senior police informed that two bodies were recovered from the spot so far. Senior officials from Assam rushed to the spot which about 90 kilometer way from Guwahati and located under Boko police station.

The trouble started at the
Langpih bazaar where people from two communities engaged in violence. A team of Assam Police Battalion posted at the nearby border outpost rushed to the spot to control the situation. However, the police team came under the attack by a mob and opened fire to control the mob.

Two persons were killed in the firing. Six police men were injured in the attack while at least 10 civilians suffered injury.

Langpih has been at the centre of discord between Assam and Meghalaya with both the states staking claim over it.
