Suspected ultras belonging to the Karbi People's Liberation Tigers outfit in Assam's Karbi Anglong district abducted nine labourers from a construction site, police informed on Friday.

A group of four heavily armed militants stormed an under construction hospital building at Rongbong Ghat under Santipur police station in Karbi Anglong hill district on Thursday night and assaulted and terrorised all the 27 labourers present before abducting nine of them at gunpoint.

District Superintendent of police B B Chetri has rushed to the spot and a search operation

has been launched to trace the labourers. The incident occurred even as security has been mounted all over the state fearing militants strike in view of the raising day of the United Liberation Front of Asom on Saturday.

The KPLT is a Karbi tribe militant group which is believed to having close ties with the anti-talks faction of the ULFA. T

The outfit was formed by some disillusioned militants of Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front and United People's Democratic Solidarity after the latter two outfits had opted for truce with the government of India.
