Assamese terror group chief held in Bengaluru

The Assam police in co-ordination with the Karnataka police picked up a notorious terrorist belonging to the Dima Halam Daogah (Black Widow) group.

The terrorist has been identified as Jewel Garlosa and is the commander of the outfit. Police sources told rediff.com that Carlosa and his outfit were responsible for a spate of killings in Assam.

The arrest was made on the basis on the information given by one of the associates of Carlosa who was arrested and grilled for information at Assam.

Garlosa, a most wanted militant leader in Assam, had been masterminding killings, arson, abduction, extortions in North Cachar Hill district which is on the boil. A police source informed that Garlosa was arrested from a hotel in Bangalore along with two other accomplices last night. The Assam Police is expected to bring the militant leader to Guwahati after producing him in a court in bengaluru

on Wednesday.

Garlosa formed the Black Widow group in 2006 after breaking away from the parent DHD outfit which had signed a truce pact with government of India. Since then, Black Widow has been running riot in North Cachar Hill district. The outfit had put a spanner on on-going construction of four-lane East-West Corridor project stretch of National Highway Authority of India within North Cachar Hill district of Assam.

A gauge conversion project of Northeast Frontier Railway too have suffered badly and is running far behind the schedule due to constant threat from Black Widow outfit which often targets contractors as well as railway property including trains in the hill district.

Meanwhile, in a wee hour encounter, Frankie Dimasa, self-styled foreign secretary of the Black Widow militant group was killed by Assam Police at Borbori area in Guwahati city. Police said the specific operation was carried out on the basis on a tip-off.
