At a time when tension was already high among the North Eastern people in different parts of the country and rumours were triggering their exodus, a statement by the All India Assam Students Union leader in Guwahati about the death of an Assamese passenger in Andhra Pradesh has further heightened the tension.

Samujjal Bhattacharya, advisor to All India Assam Students Union, has said that one Sanjay Roy from Kokrajhar was pushed to death from a train at Sompeta railway station in Andhra Pradesh on August 14.

He had blamed the incidents on some miscreants and linked it to the threats faced by the Assamese in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

Top officials of Railway Police and Andhra Pradesh police have denied the report saying that the passenger was not pushed by anybody but he fell down and succumbed to his injuries.

Additional Director General, Railway Police in Andhra Pradesh VSK Kaumudi has said that it was a case of accidental death. He said that Sanjoy Roy was travelling in the general compartment of Bengaluru-Guwahati Express and fell down from the train at around 11 am.

"He was rushed in an ambulance to a local hospital where he died a few minutes after arrival", he said.

Railway police at Sompeta has registered a case. The body was kept at Sompeta hospital and will be handed over to his family after they reach the place.

Srikakulam district superintendent of police KVV Gopal Rao said that a week before this accident, Sanjay Roy's brother Kunal Roy had met with an accident while travelling from Thiruvananthapuram to Assam. He received simple injuries at Palasa after he fell down from Trivandrum express and was admitted to a hospital.

Sanjoy Roy along with some other people had come to take Kunal along with them when he fell down from the train on Tuesday.
