The parents of two boys of Asaram Bapu's Ashram in Ahmedabad, who died under mysterious circumstances in July, have demanded an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the deaths.

"The chief minister had assured us that CID (crime) will investigate the matter and get results within 10 days. But it is over ten days now, and the police is yet to come up with substantial facts that could solve the mystery behind the deaths of our children," Shantibhai Vaghela, father of one of the boys, told media persons.

Decomposed bodies of two cousins Dipesh Vaghela (10) and Abhishek Vaghela (11), were found on the banks of Sabarmati river on July 5, a few kilometres away from the religious leader's Ashram, Gurukul in Motera, Gandhinagar, where they used to study.

"We will be fasting for 72 hours from August 8, as a sign of protest against the incompetency of the state police to solve the case and provide justice," he said.

"And even after this, if we don't get justice, we will resume our agitation," Vaghela added.

On July 18, total shutdown was observed in the city amidst violent protests by people and attack on media persons by supporters of Asaram Bapu.
