Union Minister Mohammed Taslimuddin's high profile son Sarfaraz Alam, the Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate from Jokihat assembly constituency in Araria district was arrested and sent to jail in connection with a case relating to the attack on a district police official.
Alam, a former Bihar minister, was taken into custody when he came out of the office of the returning officer for the Jokihat assembly constituency at Araria after filing his nomination as a RJD candidate, official sources said.
He was produced before the chief judicial magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody for a fortnight.
A non-bailable warrant of arrest was issued by a local court against Alam for allegedly attacking and obstructing a police official in discharge of his duties at Teragach police station in Kishanganj district recently.
Before Taslimuddin's son, another Union Minister Jayprakash Narain Yadav's brother and RJD candidate from Jamui assembly seat was arrested and later released after pressure by Yadav.
A warrant of arrest was isued against Yadav and an alert sounded across the state to arrest him.
Yadav has filed a petition in the court on Wednesday for anticipatory bail in this connection.
