Pattabhiraman new vice chief of army staff

Lt Gen S Pattabhiraman was named as the new vice chief of the army staff on Thursday.

Gen Pattabhiraman, currently western army commander, will take over on October 1 on superannuation of Lt Gen B S Thakur, according to a release from the army.

Lt Gen Deepak Kapur, who is currently the GOC-in-C army training command, has been appointed as the new northern army commander succeeding Lt Gen Hari Prasad, who retired on Wednesday.

Lt Gen Daljit Singh has been promoted to the rank of army commander from September 1, but will only assume the charge of western army commander on October 1, the release said, adding that Lt Gen K S Jamwal, presently chief of staff, will assume the charge of GOC-in-C army training command also from October 1.
