Army troops gunned down one terrorist of Lashkar-e-Tayiba outfit in a fierce gunfight in the forest area of Cherhar near north Kashmir Sopore town on Thursday afternoon.

Four army troopers were injured in the gunfight which erupted after troops of counter insurgency Rashtriya Rifles and the police surrounded the forest area on specific information about presence of a group of terrorists there.

"As the security forces were busy combing the area, hiding terrorists under the cover of dense fog opened fire at the troops injuring four of them who were evacuated to hospital for treatment", a senior police officer said.

In the subsequent gunfight, security forces gunned down one terrorist of the LeT outfit, he added. He said searches were continuing in the area.
