Two terrorists were on Thursday killed in an ongoing gunbattle as the Army scuttled a major infiltration attempt from across the border in Naugam sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

Troops guarding the Line of Control intercepted a group of five to six terrorists, who were trying to sneak into this side, near Toot Mari Gali in Naugam sector early this morning, an Army official said.

He said the troops of 35 Rashtriya Rifles challenged the infiltrating terrorists who opened fire, triggering a gunbattle between the two sides.

"Two terrorists have been killed so far and their bodies are lying near the encounter spot," the official said, adding the operation in the dense bushes is still going on.

Defence sources said additional reinforcements of 18 Jat and first Naga regiment have joined the operation to neutralise the remaining terrorists.
