Army on Sunday foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing a militant and injuring another, a day after 12 intruders were gunned down in Gurez sector.

There was movement of a group of four armed militants near LoC in Balnoie forward belt in Krishnagati sub-sector of Poonch district around 0100 hours today, an army officer of 16 Corps said on Sunday.

Troops kept track of their movement as they were trying to find a gap in the security setup to cross-over and challenged the ultras, he said, adding, in the ensuing gunbattle one militant was killed and another injured.

Two others fled back. During the night, militants dragged the body of the slain ultra to Pakistan side, the officer said.

Troops foiled the biggest infiltration bid this year and killed 12 militants in Gurez belt of Kashmir Valley on Saturday. An officer also died in the operation.

Nine infiltration attempts have been made this month.
