Chief of Army Staff General Bikram Singh briefed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Cabinet Committee on Security on the incursion by Chinese troops in Ladakh.

“The CCS met today and the army chief briefed us on the Ladakh situation,” Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters after the meeting.

Chinese troops have set up camp 19 km inside Indian territory in Ladakh’s Depsang Valley since April 15.

India has tried, through three military flag meetings and through diplomatic channels, to get China to vacate the area.

China insists it has not intruded into Indian territory.

Defence minister A K Antony, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde were present at the meeting that was chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
