Army captain injured in encounter with terrorists in Sopore

A captain from the Indian Army was wounded in an encounter with terrorists in north Kashmir's Sopore town on Tuesday evening.

A senior police officer said troops of 22 Rashtriya Rifles and the police jointly surrounded a house in the town after receiving a tip-off of the presence of terrorists. "As the holed up terrorists were challenged to surrender, they opened fire at the troops injuring an army captain. He was rushed immediately to the hospital for treatment," the officer said.   

More reinforcements have been rushed to the area and the security around the house has been tightened. "Intermittent exchange of fired was continuing till late Tuesday evening," the officer added.

High tension gripped Sopore where terrorists had attacked the heavily-guarded residence of the police chief with grenades and assault fires.
