September 19, 2006 01:50 IST

In the wake of infighting breaking out in the party on the Telangana issue, the Congress high command has decided to rush All India Congress Committee general secretary incharge of Andhra Pradesh affairs Digvijay Singh on September 20 morning to the state.

An emergency meeting of the Congress Legislature Party and members of Parliament has been convened at the party headquarters -- Gandhi Bhavan -- in Hyderabad on that day to discuss the recent developments.

After the three-hour-long drama at press club, involving the gherao of party MP Rajagopal by some Telangana activists, AICC leaders inquired from the state leaders on the episode and conveyed the directive to convene the CLP and MPs' meeting to thrash out the issues. The meeting will take place in the presence of Digvijay Singh.

Earlier, in the evening, Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and AP Congress president K Keshava Rao, had an hour-long meeting at the CM's camp office and reviewed the situation in the wake of Monday's developments.

Dr Rajasekhar Reddy and Keshava Rao also went through the press clippings and TV news clippings of Monday's incident and the utterances of Rajagopal and Siddipet MP Sarvey Satyanarayana and Nizamabad MP Madhu Yaski Goud and decided to make a detailed report on the issue and dispatch it to the party high command.
