Concerned over the continuing suicides by the students and youth for the Telangana cause, activists observed Wednesday as 'anti-suicide day' by administering a pledge to the students not to end their lives but to work hard to achieve 'Telangana'.

Such program were organized in Hyderabad, Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda and other places at the behest of Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K Chandrasekhara Rao to stop the spate of suicides continuing since December.  Organisations claim more than 400 people have ended their lives as a mark of their support to the Telangana state.

The biggest program was held at the Osmania University campus where Telangana Joint Action Committee convenor Professor Kodanda Ram administered the pledge to the students that they will not take the extreme step. "We will live to fight and achieve Telangana," said the pledge. The Osmania University Students Joint Action Committee, which had organized the program, decided to form a five member committee to prevent the incidents of suicide. The campus itself witnessed several incidents of suicide, the latest on July 31.

Speaking on the occasion, Kodanda Ram said that there was no need for the students and youth to lose hope. "Telangana is bound to come, no body can stop it", he said. BJP leader Vidyasagar Rao also addressed the students.

Another program was held at Gun Park in Hyderabad. At a similar program in Nalgonda, K Kavita, the president Telangana Jagruti organization administered the pledge to the students. Students in Khammam formed a human chain on the occasion.

Pledge-taking programs were held in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Warangal, Karimnagar and Medak.
