Another youth succumbs to the bullets in the Valley

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party which decided to boycott the ongoing session of the state legislature Saturday spurned an effort by the businesses advisory committee of the state assembly to re-join the session.

The committee had authorized state CPI-M leader and MLA MY Tarigami to call on the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti to persuade her to call off the boycott of the session which began here on September 30.

The PDP president told Tarigami that under 'the prevailing situation it was difficult for the party to re-join the session unless the government halts the atrocities on people'.

"Unless the government shows some inclination to stop atrocities and initiates action against the killers of 110 innocent persons the assembly session will lack any seriousness and credibility."

"Our discussions within the four walls of legislature cannot be isolated from the shameful realities of life outside it," a statement issued by the party this evening said.

In the statement the PDP president is stated to have told Tarigami that 'while outside the house reign of terror continues unabated inside all the business related to current situation has been virtually banned'.

"All the resolutions furnished by the PDP have been disallowed by the speaker. These resolutions pertained to revocation of AFSPA, reduction in troops on civilian duty and holding of unconditional dialogue to resolve the Kashmir issue."

Meanwhile one more youth injured in security force firing in the Putkhah village of north Kashmir Baramulla district succumbed to injuries in the Soura medical institute early this morning.

Umar Sulaiman Sheikh, 22 had been among the injured after security forces fired live ammunition to quell a protest in the village on September 16. The youth had been under treatment in the institute where doctors tried to revive him.

The body of the youth was handed over to his relatives which was later buried in his ancestral graveyard where thousands attended the burial shouting pro-freedom slogans.

The death toll in the near four month long unrest which started here on June 11 when a 17-year old youth Tufail Ahmad Mattoo was killed after a police fired tear smoke canister hit his head has now risen to 107.
