A young woman died after delivery on Wednesday at Jodhpur's Umaid Hospital, where 17 maternal deaths have taken place in the past few months due to medical negligence, trigerring violent protests from her relatives who beat up two doctors, including the hospital head.
Protesting the attack on their colleagues, residentdoctors of the hospital went on a strike demanding security for doctors in hospitals.
Sarika (22) died due to excessive bleeding after delivering a baby girl. Following her death, her family members, alleging negligence by doctors, went berserk, smashing window panes and damaging furniture.
The victim's kin also beat up a doctor and the superintendent of the hospital.
Sarika's husband Jaswant Singh said she was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon and delivered a baby girl on Wednesday through normal delivery.
He said Sarika was completely normal till the delivery, but after it she started bleeding profusely. The
"We were kept in dark during this entire process," Singh alleged.
The victim's family also refused to take away her body demanding suspension of the erring doctors, including the superintendent, and compensation.
Significantly, Sarika's parents are employees of the same hospital.
The agitated family members could be controlled only after the police arrived.
The hospital administration has filed a complaint with the police against the victim's relatives.
Meanwhile, the divisional commissioner has sought a report of the incident from R K Aseri, principal of S N Medical College and a team comprising four doctors has been constituted by him to inquire into the matter.
The hospital had recently hogged media glare following 17 maternal deaths there due to administration of contaminated IV Fluid.
