Another accused in the Bhanwari Devi abduction case, Umesha Ram, on Monday surrendered before the police in Jodhpur. He was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation, which arrested him.

Umesha, the ninth person to be arrested in the case, is among the five against whom the CBI court has issued arrest warrants last week.

He surrendered before Deputy Inspector General (Rajasthan Police) Girraj Meena, who is assisting the CBI in the case, and was handed over to the investigative agency, said the police.

Umesha is being questioned at the circuit house in Jodhpur, CBI sources said.

Mahipal Maderna and Malkhan Singh (both Congress MLAs), Amar Chand (Bhanwari's husband), Sohan Ram, Baldev, Shahbuddin, Parasram and Sahiram have already been arrested in the case.

The CBI is hunting for Bisnaram, another suspect who is absconding, the sources said.

Bhanwari, posted as auxiliary nurse and midwife at a sub-centre in Jaliwada village, nearly 120 km from Jodhpur, went missing on September 1.
