A hangman, whose father had executed one of the killers of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, says he is willing to hang Mumbai terror attacks convict Ajmal Kasab if needed.
But, the 65-year-old Mammu Singh, popularly known as 'Mammu Jallad' feels he might not get the opportunity as legal process involved could take a long time.
But, he hoped his son Pawan could do the job if required. After the Mumbai court had on Thursday awarded capital punishment to Pakistani gunman Ajmal Kasab, a question had popped up where is the hangman.
Mammu Singh said, "I will feel proud in hanging Kasab in Meerut jail."
Presently there are only two hangmen in the country and Mammu Singh is one of them. Mammu Singh hails from a family of hangman.
His grandfather Lakshman Majeera was a hangman during British period. His father Kallu Singh was also involved in the same profession.
And he has been training his son Pawan, 42, who is also in the business.
Meanwhile, Ashok Kumar, a zila panchayat member from Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh, on Friday requested President Pratibha Patil through a letter to give him the job of executing Kasab.
