"Hell no". This is what United Nations Secretary General said when he asked whether he would resign.

Annan said he would stick on and work to realise his ambitious UN reform plan.

These statements came immediately after Annan was cleared of involvement in the United Nations Oil-For-Food programme in Iraq.

Annan's son Kojo works for a Swiss company that won contracts in the Oil-For-Food programme, and it was alleged that Annan had used his influence to win the deals.

Meanwhile, the United States said on Tuesday that it would continue to support Annan despite the oil-for-food scam reports.

However, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said "we will carefully study the report."
