Former Miss Jammu Anara Gupta approached the National Commission for Women on Saturday seeking the arrest and dismissal of police officials who allegedly kept her in illegal detention in connection with the porn CD case.

The commission assured her that it would take up the case with the National Human Rights Commission.

Accompanied by her mother Raj Rani and uncle Sanjay Sachdev, Anara met NCW chairperson Girija Vyas and submitted her petition to the commission.

When asked whether the demand for compensation arose in the meeting, Raj Rani retorted they were not fighting for compensation but for justice.

"Our role would be that of a counsellor to Anara Gupta, while the NHRC, whom she has already approached, will act as the nodal agency," Vyas told reporters.

The commission was briefed about the alleged torture Anara suffered when she was detained by the police, Vyas said, adding they would ask for a status report from the state authorities regarding the case.

The report would then be forwarded to the NHRC along with the details of Saturday's meeting, Vyas said.

Anara has also sought time to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

"People tell my daughter to forget the incident as a bad dream and get on with life, but how can she forget that she was hanged from the fan and tortured for three days, and all the members of her family, including myself, were beaten up in front of her to force her to admit her 'guilt' before television cameras. She was totally innocent and was not involved in the racket in any way," Raj Rani said.

Added Anara's uncle Sachdev: "The Jammu and Kashmir government was forced to admit on the floor of the House that Anara was innocent, and a criminal complaint has been filed against the erring policemen. But, the police officers have not been suspended. They are very much on duty, but at different places."
