AMU prof case: Two video journalists arrested

Two video journalists, who allegedly conducted a sting operation on the gay Aligarh Muslim University professor, were on Monday arrested in Aligarh on charges of forcibly entering his house on February 8 and causing physical harm to him.

The two -- Adil Murtaza and Sirat -- were named in the first investigation report filed by 62-year-old AMU professor Srinivas Ramchander Siras after he was caught on camera with a rickshaw-puller at his official residence in Aligarh.

According to police, the duo have been charged for forcibly entering the house of the late professor and causing physical harm to him.

Reacting to the arrests, AMU Teachers' Association President Mukhtar Ahmad told PTI, "We want the police to interrogate the two fairly so that the truth behind the sting operation which culminated in the tragic demise of our colleague is fully unravelled."

Some senior AMU officials, including Siras' colleagues, are also likely to be questioned in connection with the case, police sources said.

Following the February 8 incident, the news channel for which they were working has clarified that the services of the two had been terminated before the sting operation.
