Security for Bachchan stepped up at Lilavati hospital

December 04, 2005 16:22 IST

Security at Lilavati Hospital, where superstar Amitabh Bachchan is undergoing treatment, has been stepped up after a television reporter allegedly barged into the Intensive Care Unit to interview the actor, hospital sources said on Sunday.

Two private security guards, suspected to have let the woman reporter in on Saturday, after she allegedly pretended to be a patient at the hospital, have been removed from duty and the private security agency, which had employed them, has been asked not to put them on duty at the hospital again, hospital sources said.

Bachchan, who enjoys 'Z' category security, is already surrounded by police gunman outside the ICU. This apart, the hospital, too, had provided a security cover around the ICU and near the hospital to ensure that people, other than the members of Bachchan family and relatives, did not intrude the privacy of the superstar.

However, the reporter succeeded in bypassing the hospital security - first at the hospital entrance, pretending to be a patient, and then outside the ICU, where she is reported to have pretended to be a Bachchan kin.

She managed to sneak inside the ICU where Amitabh is admitted, but could not get an interview.

Now, the hospital has decided to be extra cautious while allowing people inside the hospital and the ICU, 'even if it means causing a litle inconvenience', hospital sources said.

"Media should also act responsibly while reporting on such issues," hospital sources added.
