Air India pilots quarrel in cockpit; de-rostered

April 06, 2015 12:30 IST

Two Air India pilots allegedly indulged in a heated argument on board a Jaipur-Delhi flight just before its departure and have been de-rostered.

The incident took place when an Air India flight from Jaipur was readying to take off for Delhi on Sunday evening.

An Air India spokesperson said both the pilots- commander and co-pilot- have been derostered pending investigation.

As per reports, the co-pilot of the Airbus A-320 took offence and beat up the captain after the latter asked him to write down critical figures that are noted before the take-off.

The flight, however, departed for Delhi after the captain decided to operate the same “in the interest of the airline", sources said, as per a leading English daily.

The airline, however, brushed aside the incident as a minor argument and 'nothing more'.

An AI spokesman said that the captain and his deputy had an argument and that they have settled the issue.

Reports however claimed that both the pilots have been de-rostered for now,

The incident raises serious questions about flight safety, especially in the wake of the Germanwings air disaster in which the 'suicidal' co-pilot allegedly crashed the plane deliberately.
