Pakistan troops again violated the bilateral ceasefire on the Line of Control in the Poonch district of Jammu region on Monday evening. The latest ceasefire violation came hours after five civilians were killed and 29 others wounded in heavy Pakistan firing in the Arnia sector of the international border in Jammudistrict early on Monday morning.

“Pakistan carried out unprovoked ceasefire violation using mortars in Kerni sector in Poonch from 5:40 pm to 6 pm. Equal effective response of unprovoked firing was given by own troops,” a defence spokesman said

Reports of heavy firing have come in from Kanachak, Pargwal and R S Pura sectors of Jammu district on Monday evening. Meanwhile state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has strongly condemned the killing of innocent civilians in the shelling from across the border in Arnia sector of Jammu district.

He said that resorting to shelling on civilian and that too on the occasion of holy Eid is all the more shocking. Omar expressed his solidarity with border people and assured the support of his government.
